Ms. Lorraine has had a longtime dream of having a community garden for her and her neighbors. Melanated Growers is about to make that dream a reality! Planting Community Gardens for Spring 2026
There are 40 food deserts in Jacksonville Florida. According to the USDA, a food desert is a tract in which at least 100 households are located more than 1/2 mile from the nearest supermarket and have no vehicle access OR 33 percent of the population live more than 20 miles from the nearest supermarket. Melanated Growers will be planting community gardens in these areas throughout the year that will yield harvests for many seasons to come.
